WINTER 2011 - 2012
ELF HELP—SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17 @ 1PM—5PM
Do you need some time to finish last minute holiday shopping or preparations without the kids tagging along? Drop them off at the park office conference room for an afternoon of nature fun. We’ll play nature games, make a craft, have a snack, and even play outside if the weather permits. This program is for children ages 4 and up (must be toilet trained). Space is limited and you must pre-register by 12/14.
FAMILY NATURE ADVENTURE—THURSDAY, DECEMBER 29 @ 10:30AM—NOON
Let’s learn to navigate! Knowing how to find your way in nature is a good skill to have. Come learn how to use a compass and then follow a course outside. This program will start inside and then go outside so please dress in layers. Pre-registration is appreciated.
PARK HISTORY SPEAKER SERIES FOR ADULTS (PART I) - JANUARY 11 @ 7:30PM
Edgewater INDUSTRIAL Park??? It could have happened! The land where Edgewater Park is situated was coveted by industry in the late 1800's. The creation of Edgewater Park was no accident. Friends of Edgewater State Park will present a fast moving review, with plenty of pictures, maps and commentary about the developments and events that have defined the land known as Edgewater Park. Meet at the park office conference room the first of this 2 part series (See Feb. 1 description). Attendance at both sessions is not required.
**The Exploration Station will also be open this evening for one hour before and after the talk.**
CHILDREN’S ICE DROWNING PREVENTION WORKSHOP—SATURDAY, JAN. 28 @ 1P—3P
Come learn how to recreate safely in the winter around frozen water. There will be a slide show presentation, practice of hands on self-rescue techniques, and a show and ‘try it’ of rescue equipment. This program takes place entirely indoors at the park office conference room and is geared to children age 6 and up. Pre-registration is appreciated.
PARK HISTORY SPEAKER SERIES FOR ADULTS (PART II) - FEBRUARY 1 @ 7:30PM
Think you know all there is to know about Euclid Beach Park? This talk will highlight some of the innovations of the Humphrey Family and how they used them within the park. A past park employee will also be sharing his knowledge and experiences working at the amusement park. Meet at the park office conference room for the second of this 2 part series. This talk is presented by Euclid Beach Park Now.

CLNP (aka DIKE 14) BACKYARD BIRD COUNT—SUNDAY, FEB. 19 @ 1—4PM
Meet at the park office for registration and backyard bird count information before venturing out to Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve. Sponsored by the Dike 14 Environmental Education Collaborative.

RECYCLED SCULPTURE WORKSHOP—SATURDAY, FEB. 25 @ 2PM
Meet with local artist Christine Siarka who will show you how one person’s trash can be made into your treasure! Bring some recyclable/trash items and some creativity to make a masterpiece. Some supplies will also be provided. Pre-registration required no later than 2/17.
SATURDAY SCIENCE: SHIPWRECKS—SATURDAY, MARCH 3 @ 1PM—3PM
Kevin Magee from CLUE will begin the afternoon with a presentation about Lake Erie shipwrecks. This will be followed by hands on science activities around the topics of waves and weather. The program is co-presented by Case Western Reserve University—Center for Science and Mathematics & Cuyahoga County Public Library and supported with funding from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation.
**The Exploration Station will be open during this program.** Pre-registration is greatly appreciated for planning.
Crayon Recycling… Do you have worn out crayons from the first half of the school year? Don’t throw them away!! Did you know that crayons are made from petroleum products and should not end up in the landfill? Do your part! Bring them to the park office or nature center for recycling. Receive a cool recycled crayon in exchange for your old ones.
